Along with the song, the video exaggerates Adichie’s words through visuals of women being free and open. Adichie’s words on feminism and how women are mistreated compliment Beyonce’s words of empowerment excellently. If anything, the song itself gathers its meaning from the sample of speech. The song interjects with the segment halfway through, and uses it to really drive the songs overall theme. Getting back to the song, It also samples a segment of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED talk about feminism. If any of you have not seen it, I will link to Emma Watson’s speech about her new program planning to combat this issue, “He for She”. Personally, I cannot believe that this is even still an issue, as there is no reason that women should be treated any differently than men in terms of their freedom to live their life. This is a very serious issue in the world and definitely should be taken more seriously. She has worked to earn her fame and fortune just as any women could, as they should not be required to simply be taken care of by a man.
